WHY DO WE SING?

I recently unwound the possibility that I started singing as a child because I was grieving and it was the only acceptable form of expression and emotion that not only wouldn’t upset anyone, but seem to make things better. In a chaotic and confusing childhood, it gave me the chance to be seen too. We all desire to be seen, to be heard. It’s how we make connection. Singing is connection for me. What about you?

Singing is a mind and body activity with a heart and soul connection. There are simple easy wins for us vocally and then there are frustrating days when our voice doesn’t do what we want. The bigger picture is that singing is more than coordinating muscle groups to vibrate into sound. Living in a world where we can acquire things so quickly, it may be surprising how much patience is needed to achieve a sound you love and can be a long complex, and rewarding journey.

WHY DO WE DESIRE TO BE HEARD AND SEEN?

Our bodies and psyches suffer when we do not voice our fears, our feelings, our truth. Our voices speak our truth, express our emotions, make a stand, cry for help and tell people who we are. Bodies cannot fully release physically and psychologically into free singing when much of our inner voice is trapped.

I am committed to voice development training through coaching in increasing sensitivity and connection to the heart, artist & creative development, nervous system regulation (learning how to come out of freeze/fight/flight) and to confidence building. How do you want to be courageous with your voice?

WHAT ABOUT YOU?

  • Are you stuck or stagnant with your art, creativity, or in your life?

  • Are you recently out of a relationship, separated, divorced and looking to know yourself better; find your voice and find how to communicate? Knowing yourself; maybe your new self is the path to finding your voice.

  • Are you feeling lost after beginning deconstructing your Christian faith and aren’t sure how to voice your feelings about it?

  • Are you tired of feeling ashamed of your body and want to find not just body acceptance, but find gratitude and love and find out what you really need?

  • Are you a white person who is frustrated for our black and brown brothers and sisters in this world and want to be able to get past your own fragility and use your voice for good and learn how to not run away from being called in or called out… Me too. Let’s work together!

  • Did you get a degree in classical voice or music theater and no longer feel fulfilled by the music now? Do you want to find and sing the music of your heart? You can sing that music; you can WRITE that music. Let’s explore your inner artist!

  • Do you want to write your own music; your own stories? It’s some of the most fun and fulfilling work I do; writing songs and coaching others!

After working with singers for more than 20 years, I have never been more convinced that when people tell me that they just need more confidence to be able to sing in front of other people that what they really need to understand is their own value and self-worth. If something about that resonates with you, and you would like to live a life filled with freedom and joy of using your voice however you want without fear or shame, I want to work with YOU.
