Belting: Balancing the Voice

Being able to belt like your favorite radio and Broadway stars starts with a Balanced voice. Belting is taking the speaking voice (chest register) up in pitch beyond the place the voice naturally wants to shift to the softer voice (head register) loudly. This takes some strength in the chest and head register muscles. Every voice is different, and usually voices are lacking strength in one of those registers to make the belt strong and easy and healthy. Learn about the history of belting and work on exercises to strengthen the muscles. Each student will receive individual attention and will work on a song that demonstrates belting.
